Brandon Foss

How long have you been training?

Since November 2016

Why did you begin training?

I was unhappy with who I was as a person and I wanted something to use as a framework for personal growth and to change in my life.

What encourages you the most about your practice?

The positive real-word impact it has had in my day-to-day life. The hardships I’ve faced, and lessons I’ve learned on the mats make my life a better one to live.

What challenges you the most?

I am not a naturally gifted athlete. I recover slowly, and I have to work hard to acquire new skills.

How have you evolved as a result of it?

I have learned that what hard work means for me will change across different periods of my life, and that consistency of effort and attendance will carry me farther than a few intense sessions.

What is something that you learned about BJJ that was unexpected?

You can identify who someone has rolled with by the scents on their gi. Hygiene is important people!

Any notable accomplishments, interests or facts you’d like to share?

I’m a former active duty Marine, and I was homeschooled from first grade through high school.
